Swinburne Chapter Achievements
Swinburne University of Technology established a Golden Key chapter in 2006, and a new member reception was first held on 2 October 2006. The chapter first achieved Gold Status (the highest rank attainable among Golden Key chapters) in 2007. Swinburne was also awarded Gold Status in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and on-track to gain Gold Status for 2011.
At the Asia-Pacific Conference in January 2011 the chapter advisor, Mr Derek Whitehead was awarded Chapter Advisor of the Year (2010) for the Asia-Pacific Region. This tremendous honour was in recognition to Mr Whitehead’s support and advice since the Chapter’s inception in 2006. The Chapter is tremendously grateful for Mr Whitehead’s continuing assistance.
Events held in 2011 include:
- New member information sessions (2)
- New Member Recognition Event
- Career events (3) in conjunction with Women in ICT and the Information Systems group
- Fundraising events (2) to support the 20th Man Fund
- Social events (rock climbing, Australian Gardens trip, end of semester party in conjuction with WICT, the Table Tennis club and Tang Soo Do club)
- Community service events (Clean Up Australia Day, FareShare, ongoing volunteering at Alamein Neighbourhood and Learning Centre)
- Motivation seminar
- Public speaking workshop
- Assist Swinburne Alumni with the Chancellor’s lecture
In addition, the Swinburne chapter helped organize the following events in conjunction with the Victorian Alliance
- Monthly networking drinks
- Victorian Alliance ball
The Swinburne chapter also sent delegates to the 2011 Golden Key Asia-Pacific conference in the Sunshine Coast.
